Baba Budan's beard and Seven Wonder Beans

The Story of how Coffee was originally Smuggled into India!

Baba Budan

'Baba Budan' - the man who smuggled coffee beans to India

Introduction -

By any chance, do you think your morning coffee run is tough? Try being a 16th-century Sufi saint tasked with smuggling seven coffee beans out of Arabia. That's right, the story of coffee in India is as dramatic as a Bollywood blockbuster, just minus the over-the-top dance sequences. Keep that apart, for now let's dive into the gritty details of the history of how coffee came to be one of growing India's most beloved obsession.

The Sufi Saint and the Seven Magic Beans :

This is Baba Budan, the original coffee connoisseur. This guy was no ordinary holy man; he was a bonafide coffee smuggler. Legend has it that he made a pilgrimage to Mecca and was blown away by this magical bean that could turn grumpy mornings into productive powerhouses. Problem was, taking coffee beans out of Arabia was like trying to steal the Mona Lisa - impossible. But hey, when you're on a mission to enlighten the masses with the gift of caffeine (Exactly like we at InFuze Coffee are), a little thing like the law doesn't stand in your way.

Baba Budan's Beard - through which the Sufi saint smuggled Coffee.

So, what does a desperate saint do? He hides seven precious coffee beans in his beard and boards his way to Indian lands. Yes, you read that right. Beard. Beans. Genius or insanity? You decide.

From Beard to Beanstalk.

Fast forward a bit, and those seven little beans turned into a whole lot of coffee plants in India's Chikkamagaluru hills. It's like watching a time-lapse of nature's caffeine miracle. And that, folks, is how a bearded saint, a few smuggled beans, and a whole lot of Indian ingenuity gave birth to the coffee culture we know and love today.
